Explore SOMGREEN’s initiatives advancing sustainable agriculture, environmental resilience, and innovation across Somalia. Through climate-smart farming, ecosystem restoration, and youth-focused green opportunities, these efforts enhance food security, protect natural resources, and drive inclusive economic growth. Together, the three projects below underscore Somgreen’s mission to build resilient communities and achieve sustainable, climate-adaptive development.
P1. Restoring Climate-Resilient Agriculture and Market Systems in Somalia
“Restoring Climate-Resilient Agriculture and Market Systems in Somalia” is a forward-looking initiative led by Somgreen, aimed at strengthening the ability of farmers, pastoralists, and local markets to withstand climate shocks. The project promotes sustainable farming practices, improved water management, and resilient value chains to boost food security and livelihoods. By integrating climate-smart solutions with improved market access and community capacity building, Somgreen supports long-term economic stability and environmental sustainability across vulnerable regions of Somalia.
P2. Shabelle Riverbank Ecosystem Restoration and Flood Resilience Project
“Shabelle Riverbank Ecosystem Restoration and Flood Resilience Project” is an initiative led by Somgreen focused on rehabilitating degraded riverbank ecosystems and reducing the impact of recurring floods along the Shabelle River. The project works to restore natural vegetation, strengthen riverbank protection, and promote sustainable land and water management practices. By combining ecosystem restoration with community-based flood preparedness and resilient infrastructure, Somgreen helps safeguard livelihoods, protect farmlands, and enhance climate resilience for vulnerable communities in the region.
P3. Youth Skills, Employment and Green Livelihoods Initiative (Y-SEGLI)
The “Youth Skills, Employment, and Green Livelihoods Initiative (Y-SEGLI)” is a dynamic program led by Somgreen that empowers young people with practical skills, employment opportunities, and pathways into sustainable, green livelihoods. The initiative focuses on vocational training, entrepreneurship development, the establishment of incubation centers, and support for internship and apprenticeship programs, particularly in climate-smart sectors such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and environmental conservation. By equipping youth with market-relevant skills and fostering innovation, Somgreen supports economic inclusion, reduces unemployment, and promotes a greener, more resilient future for communities in Somalia.
